JACKSONVILLE, FL–THE SALVATION ARMY HAS BEEN PRESENTED A CHECK FOR $78,538.29 FROM PUBLIX SUPERMARKETS FOR ITS FOOD PANTRY AND OTHER HUNGER-SERVING PROGRAMS.  THE DONATION WAS PRESENTED BY DWAINE STEVENS, COMMUNITY AFFAIRS MANAGER FOR THE FLORIDA-BASED GROCERY GIANT.  THE FUNDS WERE DONATED AT THE HOLIDAYS BY PUBLIX CUSTOMERS IN AN ONGOING DRIVE TO SUPPORT CHARITIES FIGHTING HUNGER IN THE COMMUNITY.

MAJOR JIM ARROWOOD, AREA COMMANDER FOR THE SALVATION ARMY IN NORTHEAST FLORIDA, IS VERY PLEASED TO HAVE PUBLIX SHOPPERS AS PARTNERS IN THE CONTINUING BATTLE AGAINST HUNGER.   “THIS GENEROUS DONATION WILL HELP US TO PROVIDE GROCERIES FOR THOUSANDS OF STRUGGLING FAMILIES RIGHT HERE ON THE FIRST COAST,” ARROWOOD STATED.  “PUBLIX SHOPPERS ARE GENEROUSLY STANDING IN THE GAP FOR THOSE WHO RUN OUT OF FOOD BEFORE THE NEXT PAYCHECK COMES.”

WITH THE HELP OF COMMUNITY PARTNERS LIKE PUBLIX SUPER MARKETS, THE SALVATION ARMY IN NORTHEAST FLORIDA DISTRIBUTED OVER 45,000 SUPPLEMENTAL GROCERY ORDERS TO THOSE IN NEED.
